They lived in a tent
By: Jo Smith. ~~~ July 4, 2021
They picked up their tent
and away they went.
They took their tent with them
Wherever they went.
Their entire life was spent
In their tent. To them it was a gem.
Some spent their life in a cave.
They would come out and wave
To anyone who passed by.
When they were asked, why do you thus behave
The reply was ‘to society we are not a slave’.
Others chose to dwell by the seaside.
When anyone came by they would run and hide.
They were filled with a great pride
Over their love for the seaside.
One man lived in a jug.
He never wanted a hug.
He would roll over and lug
All his belongings to another jug.
If you try to make a picture of his mug
He will quickly give you a slug.
He was kin to the woman who lived in a shoe.
If she can do that, I can live by the ocean too.
If you don’t know what to do
Just ask me and I will make you an igloo.
Little Doddle lived in a tree.
He said do not come to see me.
I am up in the sky
And I will stay here till I die.
Strange as it seems, these loved the ice and snow.
They made igloos so no one would know
That they were averse to heat and sun.
They love to play in the snow and have fun.
If you ask them they will tell you some
Cold and horror stories and put you on the run.
Jill lived on a hill.
She would never leave it for a trill.
This hill was her fondest dream.
She loaded it with ice-cream.
If you try to make her leave her hill
She will send you a staggering bill.
Sally lived in a fantasy land.
She only came out to play in the sand.
She never listened to any command.
You cannot make her take a stand
For she will never leave her fantasy land.
Mr Nut says he lives on Mars.
He can jump to all the stars.
He likes it there because there are no cars.
And another great thing, there are no bars.
He sits all day and plays his guitars.
He travels only to see oz.
Piggly wiggly lives in the mud.
If you try to bring him out he will give you a hard thud.
You cannot clean him up, not even with a flood.
He loves to smell the flower bud.
Don’t mess with him or he will bring blood.
Mrs Jangle lives in a tangle.
She wraps thread around to form a bangle.
If you try to bring her out of that tangle she will give you a strangle.
Then you will regret that you messed with Mrs Jangle.
Little Fattie plays all day and has nowhere to stay.
All he wants to do is lay
And do nothing but play.
He has nothing to say
About living this way.
Try as you may you cannot change the way
Little Fattie chose to stay.
Mr Knight hates the light.
He will not come out of his tight
Hole till the moon is shining bright.
If you mess with Mr Knight he will give you a terrible fright.
He loves his hole with all his might.
He will never let you get of him a sight.
The tent dwellers said to the others, the night is far spent.
Give up your foolishness and come live in a tent.
Else no one will ever know where you went.
We found the right way
And we are here to stay.
The turtle said, I beat you all.
My house cannot fall
It is neither too large or too small.
I can go anywhere I choose
And know that my house I will never lose.
But the people in the tent
Refuse to be bent.
Come one come all. We have to you lent
The knowledge of the glorious tent.
But one day a smart fellow came out of the thick.
He set forth a beautiful house made of brick.
Now the others had never seen such a trick.
They all said, this is now my pick.
We all want a house of brick.
Amen, so do I.
