The Day after tomorrow
By: Jo Smith ~~~ July 17, 2022
As I am in dismay about the pitfalls of today,
I wonder and imagine there is a better way.
If I can just make it till the day after tomorrow
I will then find joy and no more sorrow.
So I sit and ponder and I truly wonder
Is there a way to jump ahead
And no longer have this dread?
That magic day holds a pot of gold
Or at least that is what I have been told.
This day is so bad with dark clouds of thunder.
The worry tears my mind asunder.
But I know I will be just fine
When I reach that Day divine.
So I pack a bag and head out to search
For The day after tomorrow. I ask a bird on a perch
How can I hurry and get to the Day after tomorrow?
Sorry, he said, but you will never see the day after tomorrow.
Oh, surely that is wrong. I will there arrive.
Nope, he said, You will never make it there alive.
Oh, that just cannot be true.
You will see; that sky will always be blue.
I rush to bed to sleep.
Hoping there will not be a peep
Till I awake in the day after tomorrow.
But when I awoke I was sad to see that it is still today.
This is not the right way.
I know what I will do; I will sleep two nights.
And then it will be the day after tomorrow with no more frights.
But alas, twas not to be so.
When I get there It is still just today.
Now I am too sad to even play.
Some poems come easy. I am inspired to write.
But not so on this night.
I was only given one line. A title.
To write a good poem, knowing its story is vital.
But I am now puzzled by this one line;
I hope it will turn out fine.
Then it hits: no one will ever see the day after tomorrow.
It will always be today no matter what you say.
So now I see that God gives them in many ways.
Sometimes I get the entire thought and can write without a faze.
But with this, I am not even sure it is to be.
What can I write that would please thee?
How can I make a poem with just a title?
Give it some thought and bang
Now I see, this is vital.
On this thought a great fact will hang.
You will never see THE DAY AFTER TOMORROW.
