~~ The Great Men, Jeremiah Five ~~
Until you come to understand the fall of the OT and the setting up of the NT covenants, most of Scripture will be hidden to you, in its true meaning. Everything in Scripture deals with these two trees, which were in the midst of the Garden, which is the Tree of Life or the New Covenant of Grace, and the Tree of the knowledge of good and evil, or the Law. One is freedom, the other is bondage. One is life, the other is death. Choose you this day whom you will believe and whom you will serve.
Now understand that both trees were present in the Garden of Eden. They have always been. Both trees crossed that flood in the ark, with Noah. Sure. Ham proved to be of that old, law covenant, taking them right back into the same old bondage, after the flood. He even ensnared Noah, for a time. Yes, even Noah was deceived for a time, and went right back to that old law covenant, with its animal sacrifices. But thank God, his two older sons cleaved to truth and covered Noah’s nakedness, bringing him back into Grace.
Only people who have found Grace in the eyes of the Lord, are called Sons of God. People under that law covenant are not called sons of God. They are in bondage as servants. They are not the Great Men, the Sons of God.
Now, before the flood, there were some sons of God. These sons of God mixed and mingled their ‘seed’ with the worldly women, daughters of men, and therefore most of them soon became rebels against God and his truth. (It is not speaking of fleshly men/women/seed. It is spiritual. The Godly were the sons of God, even though they might have been females. We, women, are also Sons of God. So when they mixed with those who were not sons of God, even though it might have been a Godly woman, marrying an ungodly man, it is the same thing. We are told not to be unequally yoked with sinners. They did just this.)
There are only two instances of sons of God, mentioned in Genesis, and three times in Job, referring back to the days before the flood, in the OT. So we see then that no men were called sons of God after that flood, until Jesus Christ came and reconciled us back to God. Now we are again called sons of God. Now this is a lot of preliminary background, leading up to the understanding of the Great Man, in Jeremiah five. But it is necessary for you to fully understand this.
Those Sons of God, which were before the flood, is the ancient nation which is mentioned in Jeremiah five. All who are baptized into Jesus Christ, are once again, this great nation of Sons of God. They are of the very same nation.
Jer 5:1 Run ye to and fro through the streets of Jerusalem, and see now, and know, and seek in the broad places thereof, if ye can find a man, if there be any that executeth judgment, that seeketh the truth; and I will pardon it.
Now watch how other Scripture reveals this one: Isa 33:3 At the noise of the tumult the people fled; at the lifting up of thyself the nations were scattered. Isa 33:4 And your spoil shall be gathered like the gathering of the caterpillar: as the running to and fro of locusts shall he run upon them.
So who are these who run to and fro through Jerusalem, seeking to find any who sigh and cry over the wickedness which is done in the city?
Eze 9:1 He cried also in mine ears with a loud voice, saying, Cause them that have charge over the city to draw near, even every man with his destroying weapon in his hand. Eze 9:2 And, behold, six men came from the way of the higher gate, which lieth toward the north, and every man a slaughter weapon in his hand; and one man among them was clothed with linen, with a writer's inkhorn by his side: and they went in, and stood beside the brazen altar.
Eze 9:3 And the glory of the God of Israel was gone up from the cherub, whereupon he was, to the threshold of the house. And he called to the man clothed with linen, which had the writer's inkhorn by his side;
Eze 9:4 And the LORD said unto him, Go through the midst of the city, through the midst of Jerusalem, and set a mark upon the foreheads of the men that sigh and that cry for all the abominations that be done in the midst thereof.
Eze 9:5 And to the others he said in mine hearing, Go ye after him through the city, and smite: let not your eye spare, neither have ye pity:
Eze 9:6 Slay utterly old and young, both maids, and little children, and women: but come not near any man upon whom is the mark; and begin at my sanctuary. Then they began at the ancient men which were before the house.
Eze 9:7 And he said unto them, Defile the house, and fill the courts with the slain: go ye forth. And they went forth, and slew in the city.
Eze 9:8 And it came to pass, while they were slaying them, and I was left, that I fell upon my face, and cried, and said, Ah Lord GOD! wilt thou destroy all the residue of Israel in thy pouring out of thy fury upon Jerusalem?
Eze 9:9 Then said he unto me, The iniquity of the house of Israel and Judah is exceeding great, and the land is full of blood, and the city full of perverseness: for they say, The LORD hath forsaken the earth, and the LORD seeth not.
Eze 9:10 And as for me also, mine eye shall not spare, neither will I have pity, but I will recompense their way upon their head.
Eze 9:11 And, behold, the man clothed with linen, which had the inkhorn by his side, reported the matter, saying, I have done as thou hast commanded me.
Notice that the above Scripture clearly identifies the ones who are being destroyed for their wickedness as Judah and Jerusalem. They are identified as the treacherous dealers, in Isa. 33: Isa 33:1 Woe to thee that spoilest, and thou wast not spoiled; and dealest treacherously, and they dealt not treacherously with thee! when thou shalt cease to spoil, thou shalt be spoiled; and when thou shalt make an end to deal treacherously, they shall deal treacherously with thee.
All through Malachi God is showing his case against old Israel or Jerusalem and their priests. He actually calls them Esau, for Esau is the type of those who hate God, from Adam on down. They are that rejected old covenant bunch of folks. Every time God said something to them, showing them what they did wrong, they come back at him with, Where did we do such and such? It is that same old spirit which now fights all the truth of God, with smart cracks about every truth which is presented.
Mal 1:11 For from the rising of the sun even unto the going down of the same my name shall be great among the Gentiles; and in every place incense shall be offered unto my name, and a pure offering: for my name shall be great among the heathen, saith the LORD of hosts. Mal 1:12 But ye have profaned it, in that ye say, The table of the LORD is polluted; and the fruit thereof, even his meat, is contemptible.
See that this shows that the name of the Lord will be great among the GENTILES. But they, those old priests, have profaned it and say his meat is contemptible. These are the people whom God is sending out those destroyers against, in Eze 9. It is the very same nations of rebels spoken against in Jer. 5 and Isa 33 and Joel 2.
So watch how all of these Scripture reveal clearly who is spoken of in Jer. 5. This is how you get and prove the truth. All Scripture has to be interpreted with other Scripture, and if you cannot do this, in what you believe and teach, then know that you have it wrong.
Here is more of God’s controversy against old Jerusalem: Mal 2:8 But ye are departed out of the way; ye have caused many to stumble at the law; ye have corrupted the covenant of Levi, saith the LORD of hosts. Mal 2:9 Therefore have I also made you contemptible and base before all the people, according as ye have not kept my ways, but have been partial in the law.
Read this again: Eze 9:9 Then said he unto me, The iniquity of the house of Israel and Judah is exceeding great, and the land is full of blood, and the city full of perverseness: for they say, The LORD hath forsaken the earth, and the LORD seeth not.
Eze 9:10 And as for me also, mine eye shall not spare, neither will I have pity, but I will recompense their way upon their head.
Now again, here is solid proof that this is all speaking against the treacherous dealers, those in Judah:
Mal 2:11 Judah hath dealt treacherously, and an abomination is committed in Israel and in Jerusalem; for Judah hath profaned the holiness of the LORD which he loved, and hath married the daughter of a strange god. Mal 2:12 The LORD will cut off the man that doeth this, the master and the scholar, out of the tabernacles of Jacob, and him that offereth an offering unto the LORD of hosts.
So who is this group of rebels dealing treacherously against? Mal 2:14 Yet ye say, Wherefore? . Mal 2 Because the LORD hath been witness between thee and the wife of thy youth, against whom thou hast dealt treacherously: yet is she thy companion, and the wife of thy covenant :15 And did not he make one? Yet had he the residue of the spirit. And wherefore one? That he might seek a godly seed. Therefore take heed to your spirit, and let none deal treacherously against the wife of his youth. Mal 2:16 For the LORD, the God of Israel, saith that he hateth putting away: for one covereth violence with his garment, saith the LORD of hosts: therefore take heed to your spirit, that ye deal not treacherously. So the dealing treacherously against that wife of youth, showed their taking more than one. This is the evil which God hated. It continued all the way down through that OT, as the men continued to put away their wives and take others.
Now that takes us all the way back to the very beginning of this bunch or treacherous dealers and reveals who they are dealing treacherously against. This is speaking of ADAM. Yes, Adam is the very root of this treacherous nation. Adam is the one who dealt treacherously against the wife of his covenant or his youth. God made Adam one wife. Adam is the only man to whom God ever made a wife. He said he made ONE to seek a GODLY Seed. That Godly Seed is Christ, who is the SEED OF THE WOMAN. That Woman is this Wife of youth, Eve.
So now we see that the rebellion which God hates came about through dealing treacherously against Eve. I know the majority of people hate this truth, but it is all through Scripture, and must finally come to light. When Adam dealt treacherously against the Wife of his covenant, Eve, he brought about a seed of discrepancy or rebellion against God. That is the very root of all the rebellion is this entire world. So it narrows things down to TWO NATIONS. The nation of rebels and the nation of obedient children of God. This is a much deeper truth than just a story about two people in Eden. That WIFE means a lot more than just a woman.
So there is the proof that Judah is this treacherous dealer which God is coming against and sends his destroyers against. So then, who are these great destroyers of the rebels? Again, let the Word of God show you. Judah, Jerusalem, old Jerusalem, here, began with that root, Adam. It ends at the end of this world, when God’s anointed witnesses, with fire coming out of their mouth, finally devours all of this sinful kingdom of Adam. It began in Eden and will end at the end of this world. Then that old Satanic kingdom will be cast into the lake of fire forever.
Jer 5:3 O LORD, are not thine eyes upon the truth? thou hast stricken them, but they have not grieved; thou hast consumed them, but they have refused to receive correction: they have made their faces harder than a rock; they have refused to return. Jer 5:4 Therefore I said, Surely these are poor; they are foolish: for they know not the way of the LORD, nor the judgment of their God.
See that God had stricken them, but they were not grieved. He consumed them, but they still refused to receive correction. He sent that flood upon them, but they still rebelled against him. At the tower of Babel, they were in total rebellion against God and set about to make a NAME for THEMSELVES. They wanted to be GOD, JUST AS THEIR FATHER, ADAM, HAD. THEY HAVE NOT RECEIVED ONE BIT OF CORRECTION. They are still rebellious against the true God.
Jer 5:5 I will get me unto the great men, and will speak unto them; for they have known the way of the LORD, and the judgment of their God: but these have altogether broken the yoke, and burst the bonds.
So, who are these great men, to whom God turned and spoke to, who had known the way of the LORD and his judgment? It is the Christians, the people of FAITH IN JESUS CHRIST. It is the New Testament saints of God, who began on the Day of Pentecost. That group of people are still hated in this world, and spoken against. This is again Sons of God. Sons of God are this great people. Sons of God, through Jesus Christ, will bring that judgment against that sinful kingdom of Adam or Satan.
Notice he said that these great men had altogether broken the yoke, as Jesus told us to do, Break every yoke. And they had burst the bonds. What is this? It is those who turned away from being under the BONDAGE of LAW, unto the freedom of GRACE. It is the NT Saints of God.
Jer 5:6 Wherefore a lion out of the forest shall slay them, and a wolf of the evenings shall spoil them, a leopard shall watch over their cities: every one that goeth out thence shall be torn in pieces: because their transgressions are many, and their backslidings are increased. Jer 5:7 How shall I pardon thee for this? thy children have forsaken me, and sworn by them that are no gods: when I had fed them to the full, they then committed adultery, and assembled themselves by troops in the harlots' houses.
The lion, the wolf and the leopard is those first three kingdoms, which ruled this earth. It is the kingdom of Adam, Noah, and the kingdom which dispersed at Babel. These three kingdoms have watched over their cities and torn them in pieces, because of their transgressions. These children had forsaken God and sworn by those who are no gods. After God had fed them to the full, meaning filling them with the Holy Ghost at Pentecost, then they again backslid and took right back up their idols, assembling by troops in the HARLOT’S HOUSES = those seven churches. So this takes the rebels down into the harlot church since Pentecost. But it is the same old sinful kingdom of Adam.
