Part 5
Fall of the Old Testament~ part 5
We will start this message in Lam. 2:15.
For shortness, I will not type all of the verses. Now, v 15-This tells that those who pass by the fallen Jerusalem clap their hands over this. They are glad God destroyed this evil ‘city’. = The OT Covenant.
V16-All their enemies = the NT believers, opened their mouth against thee: this shows we teach against that old covenant. It is primarily Peter and Paul.
They say, This is the day we looked for; in other words the day God put down that law and gave us Grace.
V17-shows that God threw it down for He had commanded in the days of old for this to be done away with. He threw it down and had no pity on them. He caused her enemy [the NT Grace] to rejoice over them; he set up the horn [ruler] of their adversaries. [Christians] I can tell you, I greatly rejoice that God cast that old law down and I am not under it. I do not have to worry that if I make a mistake, He will destroy me! Glory to God! Thank you, Lord Jesus, for your Grace.V18 & 19-tells them to cry out to the Lord for the life of their young children, which are starving in all their ‘streets’ = their way of serving God. See no life is in that old covenant.
V20-Shows the women eating their babies = having to ‘eat’ the teaching of the Pentecostal babies, Peter and Paul and the others.
This also shows that the priest and the prophets are slain or destroyed in the NT sanctuary of the Lord = no priest and prophets of the OT are in the NT way of life.
V21-The young and the old lie on the ground in the streets: [this shows that God had brought them down into ‘dust’ which means He was through with them. Dust is the SERPENTS MEAT. In other words, they became totally carnal and fleshly; no spirituality.
My virgins and my young men are fallen by the sword; thou hast slain them in the day of thine anger; thou hast killed, and not pitied.
This shows that this old law is the beast with the wounded head; they had the ‘wound by the SWORD‘. This happened when Jesus nailed that old law to the cross and destroyed it. But what happened? The old Jerusalem birthed those seven churches [the seven heads] and revived that old ‘wounded head’ they brought back up that old law. They drug up a dead carcass and are now worshipping this dead, lifeless old polluted ‘food’. But God was angry at this old law bunch of people. He had no pity on them. Some day soon, his anger against this same old group, disguised as a ‘church’, will be upon them and he will do the same to them. That is prophecy in this book, which we will get to.
V22-Thou hast called as in a solemn day my terrors round about, so that in the day of the LORD’S anger none escaped nor remained: those that I have swaddled and brought up hath mine enemy consumed.
Now this sounds horrible, that is IF you think of it in the natural. But it is really wonderful. This is showing that all the little ones of the OT were actually ‘consumed’ or brought into the NT Covenant. That is the ones who had the ‘veil’ taken away and came to the light = to Jesus’ Grace.
Jeremiah 8
1. At that time, saith the Lord, they shall bring out the bones of the kings of Judah, and the bones of his princes, and the bones of the priests, and the bones of the prophets, and the bones of the inhabitants of Jerusalem, out of their graves:
2. And they shall spread them before the sun, and the moon, and all the host of heaven, whom they have loved, and whom they have served, and after whom they have walked, and whom they have sought, and whom they have worshipped: they shall not be gathered, nor be buried; they shall be for dung upon the face of the earth.
3. And death shall be chosen rather than life by all the residue of them that remain of this evil family, which remain in all the places whither I have driven them, saith the Lord of hosts.
Now this shows that those old law Jews worshipped every idol they could. It shows they shall choose death rather than life. So what is this? Death is that law = that carnal mind. It is Satan, night, refusal of Jesus and NT salvation by Grace. This is what those who clung to law are choosing - death.
8. How do ye say, We are wise, and the law of the Lord is with us? Lo, certainly in vain made he it; the pen of the scribes is in vain.
The one keeping that law thought they were wise because they had the law. But see that it brought them only confusion.
9. The wise men are ashamed, they are dismayed and taken: lo, they have rejected the word of the Lord; and what wisdom is in them?
They rejected the Word which Jesus brought the world, so there was no wisdom in them. The ‘taken’?
Is.28: 11. For with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people.
12. To whom he said, This is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing: yet they would not hear.
13. But the word of the Lord was unto them precept upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little; that they might go, and fall backward, and be broken, and snared, and taken.
14. Wherefore hear the word of the Lord, ye scornful men that rule this people, which is in Jerusalem.
This is those OT Jews refusing the Baptism of the Holy Ghost with the evidence of speaking in other tongues. See that they fell backward [back to law] were broken and snared and TAKEN.
People of the ‘church’ today think that if they are TAKEN this means they are ‘raptured’ or caught up into the sky by Jesus. But see that the ones TAKEN were destroyed.
Back to Jer. 8:10. Therefore will I give their wives unto others and their fields to them that shall inherit them: for every one from the least even unto the greatest is given to covetousness, from the prophet even unto the priest every one dealeth falsely.
This is showing that their ‘wives’ were given over to the NT ministry. Their ‘fields’ [feeding places]=spiritual table, was inherited by the NT ministers. They (Peter, Paul, etc.) became the ones feeding the flock now.
11. For they have healed the hurt of the daughter of my people slightly, saying, Peace, peace; when there is no peace. (There was no peace to those who stayed in that old covenant.)
12. Were they ashamed when they had committed abomination? Nay, they were not at all ashamed, neither could they blush: therefore shall they fall among them that fall: in the time of their visitation they shall be cast down, saith the Lord. Now when was the time of their visitation? It was when Jesus came unto them. He said to Jerusalem, If only you had known the time of your visitation; but now your house is left unto you desolate.
13. I will surely consume them, saith the Lord: there shall be no grapes on the vine, nor figs on the fig tree, and the leaf shall fade; and the things that I have given them shall pass away from them.
This fully speaks of there being no spiritual food left in that old covenant = law. Their leaf faded, and God took away all the things He had given them = prophets, priests, kings, law, and his blessings. These ‘leaves’ are those same fig leaves (law) that Adam and Eve put together and tried to cover their ‘nakedness’. But Law can never cover our sins.
14. Why do we sit still? Assemble yourselves, and let us enter into the defenced cities, and let us be silent there: for the Lord our God hath put us to silence, and given us water of gall to drink, because we have sinned against the Lord.
Here some of them realize the truth and go into the NT Covenant. They said God had put that old law to silence and given them the water of gall to drink. In other words, if you still try to ‘eat’ or live by that law, it is nothing but bitterness to one. It will destroy your soul.
15. We looked for peace, but no good came; and for a time of health, and behold trouble!
There never was any peace under that law covenant. It only brought death as God had told Adam it would do.
You should read Jeremiah and Lamentations as though it is the daughter of the old covenant speaking; for indeed this is the only true way to interpret this. She, the old covenant is speaking all of this. She is bemoaning herself, for she has been forsaken of her God.
18. When I would comfort myself against sorrow, my heart is faint in me.
19. Behold the voice of the cry of the daughter of my people because of them that dwell in a far country: is not the Lord in Zion? Is not her king in her? Why have they provoked me to anger with their graven images, and with strange vanities?
20. The harvest is past, the summer is ended, and we are not saved.
21. For the hurt of the daughter of my people am I hurt; I am black; astonishment hath taken hold on me.
22. Is there no balm in Gilead; is there no physician there? Why then is not the health of the daughter of my people recovered?
She says she cannot comfort herself. Why? Because they refused the Comforter, the Holy Ghost, so her heart is faint = not able to go on with God.
V19-She is crying out because of those that dwell in a ‘far country’. What is that? The far country is the NT = Grace. See, she, old covenant is crying because now God is with the Christians, and no longer with the law folks. She says the Lord is in Zion = the Church. Her king is in her = Jesus in us. They had provoked him to anger with their idols, no now their harvest is past and they are not saved. It is too late for God has rejected that whole old covenant forevermore.Jer.9: 11. And I will make Jerusalem heaps, and a den of dragons; and I will make the cities of Judah desolate, without an inhabitant.
Now this speaks expressly that God destroyed that old city of old testament covenant. He left them desolate. Jesus speaks this; your house is left unto you desolate.
Remember that the angels in Revelation, holding the wind to destroy the earth, were told in Rev. 7 to wait until the servants of God are sealed in their foreheads? That sealing was the Baptism of the Holy Ghost on the day of Pentecost. So now after they are sealed, the Trumpets, or the wrath of the Lamb are poured out on that old covenant of Christ rejecting old Jews. That third angel is fulfilling the Scripture in Jer. that they were given bitter water, or water of gall. This angel struck their ‘waters’ = their word, or law, so that all who now tried to come to God and serve him under that law are drinking bitter water [word] which destroys them.
The same prophecy applies today to the corrupt church, which has corrupted the Word of God. They are now in the same position that old Jerusalem was in at that time. They are truly old Jerusalem in disguise. So the same destruction will come upon them. This time they will be rooted up and destroyed to come back up no more. They are twice dead, plucked up by the roots. See this first time, the roots were left in the earth, and they came back up in the Babylon Church.
Jer.10: 18. For thus saith the Lord, Behold, I will sling out the inhabitants of the land at this once, and will distress them, that they may find it so.
19. Woe is me for my hurt! My wound is grievous; but I said, Truly this is a grief, and I must bear it.
20. My tabernacle is spoiled, and all my cords are broken: my children are gone forth of me, and they are not: there is none to stretch forth my tent any more, and to set up my curtains.
21. For the pastors are become brutish, and have not sought the Lord: therefore they shall not prosper, and all their flocks shall be scattered.
22. Behold, the noise of the bruit is come, and a great commotion out of the North Country, to make the cities of Judah desolate, and a den of dragons.
Now here God said he would sling out all their inhabitants, meaning those still dwelling under that old covenant. She then says, my tabernacle is spoiled, and all my cords broken. See that old covenant was what was spoiled. Her children were the ones who accepted Pentecost [they received the promise of the Holy Ghost]. They went from her to the NT. So because of this forsaking of that old covenant, there was no one to stretch forth her tents or set up her curtains anymore. Remember that the old tabernacle and Ark of the Covenant dwelt under curtains? This is what it is speaking of. You can no longer serve God that way.Verse 22 once again declares Judah to be the one left desolate and a den of dragons. This is the ‘dens’ they ran to and tried to hide from the wrath of the Lamb, but it could not protect them now. They are no longer safe under that law covenant. It is totally rejected by God.
Jer.11: 19. But I was like a lamb or an ox that is brought to the slaughter; and I knew not that they had devised devices against me, saying, Let us destroy the tree with the fruit thereof, and let us cut him off from the land of the living, that his name may be no more remembered.
20. But, O Lord of hosts, that judgest righteously, that triest the reins and the heart, let me see thy vengeance on them: for unto thee have I revealed my cause.
Here is Jesus speaking in prophecy. He is the lamb brought to the slaughter. They had devised against him to destroy him and his tree [Church]. Let us cut him off from the land of the living = their cry to crucify him. But see that Jesus prayed to see God’s vengeance on them. I tell you, God answered his prayer.
Come out of her my people.
