The unprofitable servant
By: Jo Smith…… December 21, 2020
Mat 25: 14 For the kingdom of heaven is as a man travelling into a far country, who called his own servants, and delivered unto them his goods.
15 And unto one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one; to every man according to his several ability; and straightway took his journey.
16 Then he that had received the five talents went and traded with the same, and made them other five talents.
17 And likewise he that had received two, he also gained other two.
18 But he that had received one went and digged in the earth, and hid his lord's money.
19 After a long time the lord of those servants cometh, and reckoneth with them.
20 And so he that had received five talents came and brought other five talents, saying, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me five talents: behold, I have gained beside them five talents more.
21 His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.
22 He also that had received two talents came and said, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me two talents: behold, I have gained two other talents beside them.
23 His lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.
24 Then he which had received the one talent came and said, Lord, I knew thee that thou art an hard man, reaping where thou hast not sown, and gathering where thou hast not strawed:
25 And I was afraid, and went and hid thy talent in the earth: lo, there thou hast that is thine.
26 His lord answered and said unto him, Thou wicked and slothful servant, thou knewest that I reap where I sowed not, and gather where I have not strawed:
27 Thou oughtest therefore to have put my money to the exchangers, and then at my coming I should have received mine own with usury.
28 Take therefore the talent from him, and give it unto him which hath ten talents.
29 For unto every one that hath shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but from him that hath not shall be taken away even that which he hath.
30 And cast ye the unprofitable servant into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
It is dangerous to be an unprofitable servant. How do you become an unprofitable servant? By not using what God gave you and increasing with it. Grow in grace and knowledge of the Word. Grow in faith. Grow in winning souls and teaching the children of God. Grow in healing the sick and all the other things that servants of Jesus Christ are required to do.
Stop being lukewarm toward God, or just indifferent. Stop allowing sin into your lives. Stop living for self and love God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength. This is required of you if you are a servant of Jesus Christ.
Jesus said if you do not take up your cross daily and follow me, you cannot be my disciple. He said unless you hate everyone and self also to the point of obeying Him above any of them, you cannot be his disciple.
He said, study the word of God. Obey it. He said keep yourself unspotted from the world. He said come out from among them and touch not the unclean thing and I will receive you.
Jesus gave everyone at least one talent to use for his glory. This does not mean physical abilities such as making music, singing, or anything else one does in the flesh. The talent is faith. He gives each one a measure of faith. We are commanded to put that faith to work/use and make it grow or increase.
In the parable, he uses it as money, but it is not money as we say. It is his gift to us of faith to make us grow into profitable Christians. Every child of God is supposed to study and learn the Word of God in order to become a teacher so we can feed the other children of God or the Body of Christ.
When you fail to do this, you become an unprofitable servant. The one to whom he gave more or the five talents used that and gained five more. So he was rewarded for his faithfulness over the few things, to becoming a ruler over much, in the kingdom of Christ.
Same with the one who received two talents. He doubled that into four so he received the same reward as the one who began with five.
But the unprofitable servant who began with just one talent refused to use it. He buried it in the earth; in other words, he lived for himself. He did not sanctify his life and live a holy life and do the things that Jesus requires.
He even went so far as to blame Jesus for his lack of ‘doing’. He said you are a hard man and so I was afraid to use the talent. Here, you have the talent that you gave me. I buried it and you can have it back.
Jesus was angry at this sluggard who lived for himself and did not grow in the Lord. He did not receive any reward. Instead, Jesus said, cast this unprofitable servant into outer darkness where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth; in other words, destruction in the lake of fire.
Jesus said, take the talent he was given and give it to the one who now has ten, for this servant will put it to use and increase for the kingdom of Christ.
You may believe the lies of carnal preachers/churches, who say all will receive the same reward. Not for one minute. Each person will be rewarded according to what he did in his body, whether it is good or bad. If you did nothing for the kingdom of Christ, you will be cast into outer darkness and not see the kingdom.
If He gave you only one talent and you use that to increase, you will receive the reward. But if you refuse to use that talent, you will be sent to destruction.
You women who sit back and do nothing because you listen to the lies that God does not use women, and let your lives be for self and not obey Christ’s command to study the Word and minister, you will be cast into outer darkness.
Running to your church and listening to your preacher is not going to get you into the kingdom of Christ. You are responsible to obey him just the same as any other person. Your lukewarm, at east life will get you into outer darkness.
There is no place in the kingdom of God for lukewarm folks who will not use their God-given talent of faith.
