The last flower to bloom
The Little ole lady’s garden was a perfect view.
Those who admired this lovely sight were not a few.
They came and the went just to behold
The beautiful flowers as they unfold.
From early spring till the first winter freeze
The garden was sure to please.
The lady went out every day the new blooms to see.
She touched them all and said I love thee.
The little flowers were so happy with her love.
She showered them with praise and called them her turtle-dove.
Each day a bloom would drop to the ground.
But there was always a new one to be found.
One little bush never produced a single flower.
When asked why he said, I am waiting for the right hour.
The other bushes laughed him to scorn.
They said, to our garden you are just a thorn.
But the little bush held his peace for he had a plan.
He saw that the other flowers had only a short lifespan.
He had seen many winters come and go
And being covered with snow had no flowers to show.
During the cold spell the lady no longer came out the door.
She missed having the pretty flowers to adore.
Sometimes she would sit and cry
As she had to tell them all goodbye.
The bush had witnessed this year after year.
He had even seen her shed a tear.
He thought, I will give her much cheer
If I wait much later to appear.
Though the other bushes mocked and gave him a hard time
He was quiet because he knew it was not his time to shine.
Finally the snow covered the ground.
There was not a pretty bloom to be found.
The lady looked out her window and screamed for delight.
Behold, there was such a lovely sight!
The little barren bush was covered with blooms.
Not just any old blooms, but gorgeous heirlooms.
She quickly ran outside
because her joy she could not hide.
How have you brought me such joy in the winter’s gloom?
You were not able to bear is what I did assume.
The bush said, with your love and touch each day
You gave me the strength to make my blooms delay
So that I can now give you beauty while the others are asleep.
My flowers are yours to now keep.
So the little barren bush bloomed all winter long.
No other bush had been able to give out such a song.
They all now marvel and give him praise.
Their lady now comes out each day upon the bush to gaze.
They are so glad that in the house she no longer stays.
